Pet care when you need it most. We are always open and fully staffed. We accept urgent and emergent cases on a referral or walk-in basis, as well as referrals for endoscopy. We provide urgent and emergent care for dogs, cats, small mammals, birds, and reptiles. We work closely with your family vet to ensure good communication and continuity of care. We are LOCALLY owned and operated.

Dr. Adrian Helmers

Owner/Veterinarian

Dr. Adrian Helmers graduated from the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies in Edinburgh, Scotland, after having completed her bachelor’s degree in Zoology from the University of Guelph in Ontario. Her special veterinary interests include dermatology, cardiology, emergency medicine, senior pet care, dentistry, and exotic animal medicine and surgery. When she is not at work, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends in the great outdoors!

Dr. Megan Broschak

Owner/Veterinarian

Dr. Megan Broschak graduated from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in St. Kitts and completed her final clinical year at Michigan State University. Her pre-veterinary studies included a Bachelor of Science in Animal Biology at the University of Guelph in Ontario. Dr. Broschak has special interests in rehabilitation, soft tissue-surgery, diagnostic ultrasound, and internal medicine. Outside of the clinic, Dr. Broschak enjoys travelling, mountain biking, backcountry hiking, swimming, snowboarding, and exploring our beautiful province!

Office Manager

Dani is originally from Portsmouth, a naval town on the south coast of England, and at the age of 16yr, made the big jump across the pond to Canada.

She lived in Saskatoon for several years, but eventually decided to move out to beautiful Kamloops with her husband, Jordan.

From a young age Dani knew that she wanted to pursue a career with animals. Throughout the years she has been in multiple roles focused on animal welfare, but for the past 5 years she has shifted her attention to clinic management.
She has taken part in numerous projects within Kamloops such as spay and neuter programs, low-income assistant programs, and community outreach and education.

Dani started with our sister clinic Neighbourhood Veterinary Hospital in January 2023, to not only oversee the clinic, but to put all her knowledge and experience into helping Dr Broschak and Dr Helmers, with opening Phases Veterinary Emergency Hospital. Behind the scenes Dani is a busy lady, always making sure daily operations are running smoothly, and all staff, clients and patients feel welcome.

Outside of work, Dani loves hiking, camping, yoga, gardening and spending time with her family and friends.

Lead RVT

Michelle grew up in Golden BC, on a small farm where she lived with and cared for lots of different animals. She pursued a career as a veterinary technician by attending Old’s college and graduating in 2011. Thereafter she worked at Fairfield Emergency Hospital in Kelowna for the next 10 years, and additionally taught courses for the vet assistant program at the Centre of Arts and Technology.

In winter 2022, Michelle decided to move to Kamloops to join her boyfriend and his dog Bonnie to start a funny farm of their own, with sheep, cattle, alpacas, and llamas! She also made the move to Kamloops in order to assist Dr Broschak and Dr Helmers with the opening of Phases Veterinary Emergency Hospital, and move into her new role of Lead Veterinary Technician.

Michelle’s heart lies in the excitement and challenge of emergency medicine. She will act to build and manage our team of Registered Veterinary Technicians at Phases and will continue to bring her many years of experience and extensive knowledge of emergency medicine to her encounters with all patients that come into our care.

I graduated from the Animal Health Technology Program at Thompson Rivers University Open Learning Program in June 2023 and successfully passed the VTNE exam to achieve my registration status. I am from Ontario and after graduation I moved to Kamloops to start my career as an RVT with Phases in January 2024.I was a human nurse in Ontario but decided to go back to school to fulfill my childhood dream of being an animal nurse. I am married to my husband, and we have twin 14-year-old daughters, and a rescue dog named Harley. I enjoy working in Emergency Veterinary Medicine as every day is something new and I am constantly learning different and interesting things. I love being a part of the Phases Team and we are treated like family which makes coming to work every day enjoyable.

Claire grew up in Vancouver and has been working in the veterinary industry since she was 14. Claire began working in emergency after completing tech school and has a passion for trauma medicine and critical care. Claire has two kitties at home, Fletcher and Timmy, as well as a Pitbull named Rigs. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking and camping.

Kristine

RVT

Kristine was lucky enough to be born and raised in the Lower Mainland of BEAUTIFUL British Columbia and has always had a love of animals. At the tender age of 2 she was already riding horses, and by age 5 she knew she would make improving the lives and care of animals her life’s work. As a teenager, she fell in love with the art of dressage and competed in multiple local and regional shows and was fortunate enough to take part in 2 Young Rider National competitions. To fund her equestrian passion, she worked with the Canadian Paralympic Dressage Coach, worked sales at a tack shop, and monitored patients overnight with Paton and Martin Veterinary Equine Hospital. Starting in the veterinary field in 2010, she graduated as a RVT in 2013 and has worked in specialty and emergency practice since. Through those experiences, she developed her passion and expertise in anesthesia and analgesia and is working towards her Veterinary Technician Specialty in Clinical Practice. Recently Kristine and her family moved to Kamloops to fulfill her lifelong dream of having a hobby farm and raising their son on acreage. When her days are not filled with emergency and anesthesia work, she loves to be with her two Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers, Kali and Billie, her cat Chloe, her two goats Spook and Jack, and her two horses Thor and Sparkles. An avid outdoors person, she loves hiking, camping in the bush, tasting wine around B, and traveling the world.

Abby is originally from the small town of Terrace BC, but decided to stay in Kamloops after completing the Veterinary Technology program at TRU. Abby enjoys the excitement and variety that comes along with ER medicine. Outside of work you can find her at the barn riding her horse, or spending time at home with her two cats Otter and Mouse.

Linda has been working as an RVT in Kamloops for over 10 years. She grew up in the lower mainland and ended up staying here after finishing school at TRU. Outside of work, she is kept busy with her young family which includes her large mixed breed dog, Janeway, and her kitten, Geordi. Linda has always had an interest in work in emergency medicine and previously would take part in the on-call group prior to PVEH opening. She is excited to be a part of the Phases Veterinary Emergency team and looks forward to continuing building her skills!

Hi, I'm Madison. I graduated from Northwestern Polytechnique in 2017, and I have been a Registered Veterinary Technologist for 7 years. My passions include surgical anesthesiology, in-patient nursing care and client communication. I am currently studying at Thompson Rivers University to obtain my Bachelor of Social Work in hopes to pursue a role in veterinary social work and to become an advocate for seniors with pets. In my free time I enjoy hiking and paddleboarding with my dog and cuddling up with my cat and a good book.

My name is Hailey. I’m one of the registered veterinary technicians here at Phases. I spent 6 years in Saskatchewan where I received my diploma and worked within the veterinary field, having experience in both large and small animal medicine. I grew up on a hobby farm in a small town north of Kamloops. Where is still have horses and a goat. I enjoy spending a lot of time outdoors, taking my pup, Willow with me on all my adventures.

Shannon

Shannon started her career working at a cat specific hospital in Calgary as a veterinary assistant. Since then, she has gathered over a decade of experience in a variety of clinics, including some international work. Some of her past patients include a kangaroo, an emu, and a sloth! Shannon graduated from Penn Foster College in 2022 where she obtained her veterinary technician associates degree. Shannon has a special interest in veterinary nutrition and is working towards her specialty. Outside of veterinary medicine, Shannon likes to be out in nature, crafting, and play games of any and all varieties.

I moved to BC in 2021 from Ontario where I graduated from the University of Guelph with my Bachelor of Science in Animal Biology in 2019. I then attended Thompson Rivers University to earn my diploma as a Veterinary Technologist, graduating in 2023. Since then, I have absolutely fallen in love with being an RVT, particularly with exotics, diagnostic imaging, and surgery. When I am not working directly with animals, I spend my spare time drawing them, as a professional pet portrait artist. I also enjoy hiking with my adventure cat, Tofino, and horseback riding when I can."

Lead VA

Hi my name is Kahlia and I am one of the Lead VA's at Phases Veterinary Emergency Hospital. One of my key roles at Phases is to make sure our VA team has all of the training and resources they will need, so your pets get the best possible care while in the hospital.
Through my career as a VA, I have discovered my personal interests within the veterinary field include nutrition and emergency trauma. In the near future I plan to take the veterinary technician course at TRU, so I can continue to help animals within the community.
I am kept busy outside of work with my kitten Aayla, horseback riding on the family farm, and spending time with my fiancé.

Hello, my name is Chelsea and I am one of the Veterinary Assistants here at Phases. I grew up in Powell River on a small property with lots of chickens, ducks, cats and our two family dogs and have known I wanted to pursue a career in veterinary medicine since I was very young. I recently moved to Kamloops to attend university and gain work experience in an emergency clinic. When I’m not at work I love spending my time trail running, mountain biking and hanging out with my two cats.

My name is Shantana, and I am a Vet Assistant here at Phases. I have been in the veterinary industry for around 5 years and have enjoyed every second of it! Outside of work I am an avid book collector and enjoy anything to do with being outdoors.

Growing up in Kamloops most of her life, Maddie loves everything outdoors with her reactive cattle dog Mishka. Whether that be trick training, paddleboarding, camping or hiking the beautiful trails around Kamloops, but at the end of the day loves curling up with a good book on her kindle. A true dog behaviour nerd, she’s passionate about understanding our canine companions and finding ways for them to live harmoniously in our world. She is a huge advocate for muzzle positivity and breaking the stigma that muzzled dogs can bring. Her fascination really lies with herding breeds and their many quirks that also (in her opinion) make them extremely loveable.

Hello, my name is Laetitia, and I am one of the lead VA's here at Phases Veterinary Emergency Animal Hospital. One of my key roles at Phase is to make sure our VA team runs smoothly and efficiently, so your pets get the best care possible. My passion has always been animals, with a soft spot for emergency medicine and exotic animals. In my free time I am probably out hiking with my border collies, or hanging out with my little zoo of dogs, cats, ferrets, geckos, snakes, tortoises, and frogs!

Lyndsay

Veterinary Assistant

Lyndsay grew up in Campbell River before moving to Kamloops to attend TRU. After graduating she found her passion in animals when she began to volunteer in the Animal Care Department at the BC Wildlife Park. After several years of volunteering, she was hired as staff in the Guest Services department where she worked for several years. Not long after, she was also hired at the BC SPCA. Starting as a casual staff member at the Animal Care Center, she eventually moved up to full time staff and took on larger roles, such as Foster Coordinator, Craft Fair Coordinator and TNR Coordinator. Here she found her true passion in life, and that is working with feral cats. During her time with the BC SPCA, Lyndsay made the transition to the Spay and Neuter Clinic as a Vet Assistant. Finally, after 10 year with the BC SPCA, Lyndsay was ready for a change and to experience more in the world of veterinary medicine, and thus made the transition to emergency medicine at Phases Veterinary Emergency Hospital.Lyndsay lives with two cats, Tiny Tom (the perfect gentleman) and Gem (the wild child). She continues her work with feral cats with Sammy's Forgotten Felines and continues to foster for the BC SPCA. She loves to travel, and enjoys reading books, watching scary movies, and everything Halloween.

Sienna grew up in a tiny town in the forests of Northwestern Ontario before moving to Kamloops. She has always had an interest in vet medicine and has a passion for animals, cats in particular. Rehabilitating feral cats and orphaned kittens has been a big part of her life the last few years! Her time away from work is spent gardening, crafting, hiking, and taking care of her full household of fur-babies.

Hello! My name is Jeovanna and I work as a VA at Phases Veterinary Emergency Hospital. I grew up in a small town called Lillooet and moved to Kamloops in 2022 to attend TRU and study sciences. I’ve always loved animals and had an interest in veterinary care. I spent my childhood with chickens, cats, and dogs. When I came to Kamloops, I finally got the chance to gain some experience in the veterinary industry. I obtained experience working as a veterinary assistant at another clinic after receiving my certificate in animal welfare through university. Working at Phases has helped me in deciding on my future career. I would like to attend school to become a veterinary technician, and I hope to start soon. On my days off, I like to visit my family in my hometown and travel to different cities to see my friends. I enjoy reading, biking, hiking, exploring, and spending time with my loved ones.

Brielle has been a veterinary assistant for 2 years, focusing on emergency medicine. With a strong background in animal care, she is passionate about creating a comfortable and calming environment for pets in emergency settings. Inspired by her love for animals, Brielle is currently seeking higher education to deepen her understanding of veterinary medicine and better her ability to help pets in need. At home, she cares for a diverse group of animals, including horses, cats, dogs, chickens, and ducks. In her spare time, Brielle enjoys outdoor activities such as 4x4ing, hiking, fishing, horseback riding, and photography, where she embraces her love for nature and animals.

Hi, I'm Michaela. I have worked as a veterinary assistant for just over 2 years. Previously in general practice, I now pursue my passion for emergency veterinary medicine. I derive great joy from making a positive impact on people's lives through helping their beloved pets. The emotional connection between pets and their owners is powerful and knowing that I contribute to preserving that bond is both incredibly rewarding and fulfilling. My hobbies and interests include nature walks, swimming, rock collecting, observing wildlife, and fish keeping. I also enjoy expressing my creative side through fashion and makeup and love to sing and dance. Aside from fish, I have two cats named Beefcake and David. I'm honored to be able to work with an amazing team here at Phases!

My name is Brooklynn and I'm one of the vet assistants here at PVEH. I previously worked at our general practice sister clinic, Neighbourhood Veterinary Hospital before transitioning over to here! I have a strong interest in exotic medicine and I'm currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science with a major in animal biology to hopefully become a veterinarian in the future so I can better advocate for our friends with scales and feathers! When I'm not at work, you can find me exploring the BC mountains with my Small Münsterländer puppy, Juniper, who is the newest addition to our family! I also enjoy cozying up with a good book with my kitty, Lemon, curled up on my lap or watching a movie with my ball python, Venus.

Hello, my name is Rosie and I am a Veterinary Assistant here at PVEH, I have several years of experience in animal care and also have a VHA certificate that equips me with a foundation in Animal Anatomy, Medical terminology and Patient Handling, I love emergency medicine because I get to provide compassionate care to all of our furry friends, as well as the many opportunities for continuous learning, personal and professional growth. In the near future I’m hoping to complete the Vet Tech program at TRU but in the meantime, you can catch me hanging out with my two dogs Roxy and Tilly!

Hi, my name is Sarah, and I am one of the Lead CCRs at Phases Veterinary Emergency Hospital. One of my key roles at Phases is making sure our CCR Team is equipped to help you through your entire visit, no matter the emergency. I grew up in the Northern woods of Ontario, and my background is in communications and customer service across multiple countries. I love to be able to lend a hand wherever I'm able and strive to keep any emergency visit as calm and positive as possible for pet parents and fur babies alike. At home, I have a small menagerie, including finches, rescue cat Kelpie, and sidekick pup Ezra, who guards the home and simply can't get enough snacks or snuggles. In my spare time I enjoy DIYs, baking, watching horror movies, and collecting strange and unique knick knacks.

Hello! I’m Kari, and I am proud to be one of the friendly faces behind the front desk at Phases Veterinary Emergency Hospital. With a passion for animals and a background in customer service, I strive to create a warm and welcoming environment for both pets and their owners during what can often be stressful times. Every day is different here, and I love being a part of a team that makes a real difference in the lives of animals and their families. Seeing a worried pet parent leave with a happy, healthy pet is the most rewarding part of my job! When I am not at the hospital, you can find me working on my sheep ranch with my husband, and being a vendor at local farmers market, or spending time with family. I am also a proud pet parent to Cassie a Maremma livestock guardian dog, Ben a Great Pyrenees livestock guardian dog, Mya the border collie and Freya the cat who all keep me on my toes! I also have 2 horses (Larry and Willow) and a mini pony (Rodney).

Hello, my name is Jamie, and I am a CCR at Phases. I have worked in vet medicine for 8 yrs before coming to emergency med. I am the founder of Ruffstart Rescue and my passion is saving dogs! I have been doing rescue for almost 15yrs! On my days off you will find me spending time with family and friends. I enjoy paddleboarding and hiking. I foster dogs, and enjoy being a stepping stone to finding their forever family.

Tammy is a born and raised Kamloopsian, however she did spend 10 years in Calgary. She is a member of our Client Care Representative Team, bringing over 20 years of customer service experience. Tammy works closely with a local cat rescue as a foster, transfer driver and feral colony caregiver. She has fostered, both cats and dogs, over the years. She enjoys watching them grow and find their fur-ever homes, having fostered over 40 animals. Her and her son have 1 dog, 4 cats and 2 fish tanks. When her 2 and 4 legged babies are not keeping her busy, she enjoys reading, walking with her old dog and harnessed training kitten, baking, spending time in nature and driving.

Justeen: Justeen was raised in Blue River, a small community in the middle of nowhere, where she has been surrounded by pets and animals of all sorts, and where her love of animals began.
